This year’s wrestling team has done exceptionally well in the past few tournaments with many wrestlers placing in their weight classes. The wrestling team has had two duels and one tournament in the last couple of weeks. Seven of the wrestlers medaled in the tournament held at Highland High School on Jan. 17. The team also came close to knocking off the #1 team in a duel that came to the last match. Michael Aros took 1st place while David Kramer, Alex Egas, Dylan Talbot, and George Hicks took 2nd places.Elijah Cooksey and Quintin Berrellez placed 3rd. The wrestling team was also in the first ever Home Duel at Eastside High School. They also wrestled Lancaster and came up short losing 31-39. Andrew Bellasperanza, David Kramer, Dylan Talbot, Michael Aros, Elijah Cooksey, Quintin Berrellez, Alex Egas and George Hicks all received pins. The most recent tournament was on Saturday, Jan. 23 where the PHS wrestling team took 4th with only 12 wrestlers competing. Ten out of the twelve wrestlers were in the medal rounds, with Quintin Berrellez and Michael Aros placing 1st. Berrellez was also named “Outstanding Wrestler” of the tournament. Alex Egas, Dylan Talbot, Luis Aldrete, Elijah Cooksey and George Hicks all placed second.
