Success doesn’t just magically appear. You have to earn it in order to obtain it.You need discipline, effort and on top of that the desire to succeed. Darrell Haley is clearly an example of effort and discipline. “Darrell Haley is not only a great basketball player but a great person as well. He is a leader on the court as well as off the court,” said basketball coach Ryan Frazer. Haley, a senior, began playing at the age of 5 following his father’s foot steps. At the age of 15 as a sophomore, he became part of Palmdale High School JV Basketball team after transferring from Highland. “Ever since transferring from Highland Darrell has been a great addition to the Palmdale Basketball program. We are blessed to have him not only because of his size and athletic ability but because of the person he is overall,” Frazer said. Now twelve years from his beginnings, he is a major star that shines with light of his own. “But that was easy,” said Haley, who
admits he’s had to work hard to get good grades as well as perform well on the court. Haley’s height (6’11) allows him to be one of the best scorers on the Falcons with 287 points throughout the season. His height and abilities have made him number one. All of this along with his intelligence has allowed him to receive five or six scholarship offers. He is currently looking at VCU, Drake, and University of Colorado. Season Update: The boys defeated Knight, Antelope Valley and Eastside each once. Then defeated Highland and Littlerock each twice. They were forced to forfeit three league games because they played with an ineligible player. Palmdale High made it to playoffs but lost to Etiwanda High School 64-41.
