The CAHSEE Revolution is a program that is specifically designed to prepare future CAHSEE test taking students for success. The program’s overall goal is to give students a better understanding of the CAHSEE subjects – Math and English. As a result of finishing the CAHSEE course, students will most likely feel prepared, and can earn elective credits by finishing the program. 10th grade English Teacher Lara Calzada, spoke about the CAHSEE Revolution. What is it and how does it work? It is a prep program for the CAHSEE. Students take practice questions and if they get them wrong it walks them through a step-by-step process until they get it right. What is the main goal for this particular program? To better prepare students for the types of questions that they will encounter on the CAHSEE. Do you feel this program ultimately reaches its goal? It seems to be a really great program. It has helped our students who failed the CAHSEE the first time to pass the second time. This is the first time we use it with 10th graders, so we will see how it goes. The research shows that it helps, so I am hopeful. How can the students benefit from using this program? Does it give them credits? Yes and yes. It helps them to take the test better prepared and with greater confidence. Also, if they complete all 8 sessions (4 math and 4 English) they automatically get 5 credits. If they also pass the CAHSEE they will get 5 more credits. Do you see a significant change from students who join this type of program as opposed to those who do not? Absolutely. The type of student who does a program like this has the motivation to pass the CAHSEE. They want to succeed, therefore they are more likely to succeed.
