The beginning of each New Year is filled with goals, hopes and wishes. Yes, people make resolutions in hopes of a better year, but for how long are those self-set goals kept? Of course the goals seem simple enough when the year starts out because there is the fiery motivation within us that fuels our desires. With the fuel to achieve those desires, it is easier to keep the goals constantly in mind. However, as the year progresses, it becomes easier and easier for the goals we set to slip farther down our life’s “to do” list. With all the stress high school can bring, the desires that were once so important to us begin to grow less significant with each passing day. Eventually, with all the building pressure, those goals are completely forgotten.
Being consistent and following through with plans will become a necesary attribute as we go forward with our lives. Practicing consistency with the smaller resolutions we make every New Year can help build up our endurance so that when the end of the year draws to a close we can be proud of the progress we’ve made. But why just make resolutions and set goals at the beginning of the year? There are 365 days in a year, so don’t just use the first few weeks to plan it all out. It is a hard feat to plan for a year in advance when nothing is certain, and anything can happen. Take it a few steps at a time because endurance is not just about making it to the end, it’s about pacing yourself along the way.
