The AP program gives students the opportunity to take college-level courses and exams while still in high school. There are 35 courses in 19 different subject areas, offered by nearly 14,000 secondary schools around the world; in 2001, 1.4 million exams were taken by 845,000 students. Students enjoyed the challenge of taking AP courses with enthusiastic classmates and teachers; high school faculty find that AP courses enhance the student confidence and academic interests as well as their schools reputation; and college faculty report that AP students are far better prepared for serious academic work.

Why Take AP Courses

AP gives you the chance to try college-level work in high school, and to gain valuable skills and study habits for college. If you get a "qualifying" grade on the AP Exam, there are thousands of colleges worldwide that will give credit or advanced placement for you efforts. But, that's just one reason to get involved in AP. Other reasons include:

• AP awards

• The chance to challenge yourself by studying a subject in depth
